General knowledge is an important subject for kids. And they like facts to be given to them in an entertaining way in form of quizzes.

How was petroleum created?
Petroleum oil was created by the decomposition of small plants and microorganisms that were buried in the seabed millions of years ago. Layers of mud and sand covered these remains. Because of the heat, pressure and bacteria, it all got converted into petroleum.

How are diamonds created?
The kimberlitic rock, which is present in the upper mantle, at a depth of more than 150 km, within the earth’s surface contains mainly carbon. This carbon gets converted to diamonds when the temperature rises to 1,500 Degrees Celsius and the pressure is approximately 70,000 atmospheres. When the kimberlitic rock split over a period of time, the pieces of diamond are brought to the surface of the earth by the soil.

Facts For KidsHow do the messages travel in the human brain?
There are millions of nerve cells, or neurons in the brain that are connected to each other. Each of the neurons consists of numerous branches that are called dendrites. These make contact with the other neurons. The messages we send to the brain are carried along these nerve cells and thereafter passed to the other cells that are connected with them.

How many known galaxy-types are there?

There are four known galaxy-types –
1. Spiral, which looks like a pinwheel with arms that are spiraling outwards from a bright center, or what is known as a nucleus. Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are examples of spiral galaxies.

2. Barred Spiral Galaxy has a bar running across its center, which then spirals out at each end.

3. Elliptical galaxies vary in shapes ranging from being flat discs to spheres.

4. Irregular galaxies are those that do not have a definite shape.
